The temple is a marvel of architecture and worshipped by Buddhists across the world.
Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya
Encompassing an area of 147 acres, the gardens are a natural bonanza consisting of more than 4000 different species of plant and around 10.000 full grown lofty trees. Some of the highlights of the Garden include a century-old Giant Fig Tree from Java, the Giant Bamboo of Burma, the fascinating Cannonball Tree aptly named for its large pink-white flowers & huge fruits and the Double Palm Tree from Seychelles. A wonderful place for picnics, Peradeniya Gardens is a favorite spot for both locals as well as tourists.
Ceylon Tea Museum
Just 3 kilometers from Kandy, the premises of the erstwhile Hantana Tea Factory are home to the Ceylon Tea Museum. Take a guided tour of the museum that houses the tea processing machinery and an informative library. Be sure to taste the finest Ceylon Tea in the caf� as you enjoy the panoramic views of the Kandy town and hills from the top floor of the building.
Kandy Lake
Occupying a stately position, just next to the Temple of Sacred Tooth Relic, the striking Kandy Lake is certainly a feast for the senses. The legend goes that the island on the lake was the king’s personal harem. Take a walk around the lake or grab a bite in one of the eateries with the lake view.
Kandy Esala Perahera
Celebrated in July or August, this is one of the oldest & most illustrious festivals in Sri Lanka. The sacred tooth relic is taken around the town on the back of lavishly decorated elephants, as dancers, musicians, jugglers, and fire breathers perform in the parade to seek blessings of the Rain God.
